Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to promote cinema law

The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism organised a conference on Tuesday for creating awareness of the cinema law and to promote the production of feature films and documentaries.
Representatives of the Information, Culture and Tourism Departments of 10 central and southern provinces, the Department of Cinema and film companies, film entrepreneurs and members of educational institutes were briefed about cinema law number 76, which was issued on November 27, 2019.
This law consists of 10 parts, 12 groups and 71 articles that focus on the work of making films and the protection of films.
The event held at the Department of Cinema was aimed at creating awareness about the use of the cinema law while making films.
The Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Vansy Kuamua, said the cinema law has been officially used since 2020. The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism had not yet fully rolled out this law due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
Now that the impact of the pandemic is less, the conditions were favourable for organising the conference to spread awareness about the cinema law, he said.
The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism is giving attention to supervising related departments to spread information about the cinema law so that Information, Culture and Tourism Departments  can use it in their work related to the production of films and documentaries.
Cinema production should have a national characteristic and be a creative endeavour. Films should have many forms and colours and also benefit the society and the people, he said. Besides, cinema production has to lead to development so that the film industry becomes modern.
