Lao films to be screened at KAEN Film Festival in Thailand
 
Three Lao films will be screened at the 6th KAEN Film Festival in Thailand to promote the country’s movies to international audiences.
The KAEN Film Festival will be held at the Khonkaen University of Thailand during August 24-28 to promote film and cultural exchanges.
The Lao films to be screened at the at the Tontarn Market of Khonkaen on August 25 are “Mekong 2030”, “The Tuk Tuk of the Fifth Kind” directed by Anysay Keola and “The Trait” directed by Athidxay Bouandaoheuang.
“Mekong 2030” is a collection of short narrative films that envision the future of the Mekong River from five different national and cultural perspectives. Set in the year 2030, these films aim to both entertain and inspire audiences to actively protect this critical life source.
“The Tuk Tuk of the Fifth Kind” is based on a tuk tuk driver who strongly believes he is able to communicate with an alien from another star. This alien gives him a mission and promises to take the tuk tuk driver to an Utopian planet after he completes the mission.
“The Trait” is a science-fiction film about the eternal fight between good and evil. The film’s cast includes Somsinh Thammachareun, Souriya Phetssomphou, Alexsonn Sitthiso, Amina Nasedon, Somsanook Botvilaythong, Leesompong Inthavong and Janthajohn Nakmongkhon.
Besides the film screenings, the KAEN Film Festival will raise awareness about films and film production by Thai and Lao directors.
There will also be a short film competition at the film festival, which will provide an opportunity to people who create their own films to win various prizes.
A red carpet event at the opening of the film festival and an awards show for performers and directors are other highlights of the 6th KAEN Film Festival.
