Lao literature preservation project promotes stories through modern platforms

The project for preservation of Lao literature, or the Thaohoung Thaocheuang project, has released a traditional tale on online platforms to encourage the public to learn more about traditional story telling styles.
This was the eighth episode released by the project, which works to preserve literature by using modern media platforms. The episode, titled “Thaohoung Suan Nangngom Pailin Phahao”, aims to promote traditional Lao tales.
The sound recording for the episode was done by Bandith Singsouvan, while the music was composed by Chanthalangsy Tanoubout. The story was read by Douangdeuan Bounyavong and the photos were taken by Souchinda Khiewaphone.
The story was uploaded on the project’s YouTube channel so that the public could enjoy hearing it online.
Fashion designer Ms Viengkham Nanthavongdouangsy, the owner of Khang brand who is interested in Lao literature, supported the project for promoting and preserving Lao literature.
She said, “Listening to Lao traditional tales on social media platforms is a new experience for people who have no time to read such Lao stories in books and learn about Lao Literature. They can listen to the story and work at the same time.”
Ms Viengkham urged people who love Lao literature to make the time to listen to the Lao tales being provided by the project on online platforms.
“The public will also enjoy the original and traditional story-telling styles provided by the project,” she said.
