Chinese Lunar New Year festival celebrated in Laos

The China Cultural Centre in Laos has celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year festival in Vientiane, with an event organised on Friday that was a great success and enjoyed by all those who attended.
More than 100 people took part in the event, including the Chinese Ambassador to Laos Jiang Zaidong, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr Vansy Kuamua, representatives of Lieu Tou Public School, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and students and staff from the National University of Laos.
Head of the China Cultural Centre in Laos, Ms Li Yiping, expressed her gratitude to Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Mr Vansy Kuamua, thanking them for their continued support for the Centre’s activities.
She introduced the Chinese Documentary Festival, saying it was held to acknowledge the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China. At the same time, she wished participants and all their friends a happy Chinese Lunar New Year.
The Centre partnered with the Lao National School of Arts and the Confucius Institute under the National University of Laos to prepare a performance which reflected the way in which Laos and China share each other’s cultural traditions.
After watching the documentaries and the show, Li Yiping led guests to the Moon Festival Cultural Experience Area to enjoy various activities such as the “Moon Festival Cake Making Workshop”, lessons in Chinese calligraphy and tea making, and a demonstration of Han Fu traditional dress.
The Centre also organised an art show to celebrate the Moon Festival titled “Lao-Liaoning Seeing the Moon at the Same Time”, produced in both the Lao and Chinese languages. The event was broadcast on Lao National TV Channel 1 on September 10 at 8pm, to coincide with the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival in China.
Tens of thousands of Lao viewers and Liaoning residents thousands of kilometres away watched the show simultaneously on television, together celebrating the festival.
On Saturday, the Centre also posted Chinese performances on its Facebook page, which everyone could watch live.
On September 3, the China Cultural Centre in Laos also awarded prizes in a lucky draw held as part of China Tourism and Culture Week, with the draw taking place live on Facebook.
The lucky draw was one of the highlights of the event, which also featured specially produced online videos about travels through China, which enabled viewers to experience the beauty of China’s scenic landscape and its many landmarks and cultural attractions.
