UNICEF appoints Aluna Thavonsouk as first National Ambassador in Laos

UNICEF has appointed popular singer Aluna Thavonsouk as its first National Ambassador in Laos.
Ms Aluna will join other celebrities around the world “who use their voice and prominence to advocate for the rights of children”, UNICEF said.
UNICEF and Ms Aluna partnered in the past to produce a song called “Vaccinate Laos” to contribute to the national vaccination effort against Covid-19.
As UNICEF’s National Ambassador in Laos, Ms Aluna will help raise awareness through online and offline channels about various challenges that children face, such as those related to health, education, protection and poverty.
She will also help advocate for the rights of young girls in Laos, who continue to face challenges requiring urgent action, such as the issue of early marriage.
Ms Aluna, whose career spans almost 17 years, appreciated the opportunity to serve as the National Ambassador.
The artist known for her proficiency in playing the Khaen, the national musical instrument of Laos, said: “I am very honoured to be appointed National UNICEF Ambassador in Laos. I hope that through my music, I will be able to unite everyone under the noble goal of realising the rights and potential of every child. I can use my voice to tell children’s stories and be their advocate.”
Ms Aluna has more than 41,000 followers on social media platforms and has used her online presence to advocate for social issues, including the promotion of the Ministry of Education and Sports’ digital teaching platform “Khang Panya Lao” to support learning during the pandemic.
