Trade fair to boost post-Covid-19 economic recovery

The fifth Lao Home and Living Fair, being held at Lao-ITECC during July 9-17, is aimed at showcasing Lao-made furniture and building interest among domestic and regional buyers.
According to the Lao Furniture Association (LFA), which has organised the fair, the event is expected to generate more than 5 billion kip and attract more than 100,000 visitors. The fair has more than 50 business units and 120 booths.
The primary goal of the fair is to support the Prime Minister’s Order on strengthening the strict management and inspection of timber harvesting and timber transport and business, and to contribute to economic growth and post-Covid-19 economic recovery.
In addition, the fair is expected to promote protection of forests and wood products, and the use of wood in ways that are beneficial, useful, and sustainable, including efficient processing methods.
To encourage exhibitors and promote the fair, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr Phet Phomphiphack, led a delegation for a site visit on Monday. He inspected a number of booths selling wood products, household utensils, and home and living products.
LFA’s Acting President, Mr Thongdam Sihamaya, welcomed the delegation. The management board of the association briefed the minister that the fair will promote domestic goods and bolster the use of Lao furniture products, while also encouraging business entrepreneurs impacted by Covid-19 to rebuild their operations and continue tackling challenges.
Dr Phet congratulated the association for gathering its members to take part in the fair and encouraged participants to continue improving the quality of their unique goods to meet the requirements of regional and international buyers.
