Businesswomen attend micro-enterprise and mentoring training course

The government and Plan International have begun micro-enterprise and mentoring training courses in Khammuan and Vientiane provinces and in Vientiane.
The project has a budget of US$16,223 and will continue until November 11.
A Memorandum of Understanding on the training scheme was signed between the Lao Businesswomen’s Association, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Plan International.
President of the Lao Businesswomen’s Association, Mrs Chanthachone Vongsay, said the association hopes to develop the skills of its members, as well as provide jobs for women and young people in rural areas.
Mrs Chanthachone thanked Plan International for funding the project, and also the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for its cooperation.
The Businesswomen’s Association was established by the Lao Women’s Union in September 2004. It is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the development of female entrepreneurs and businesswomen throughout the country.
The aim of the association is to assemble Lao businesswomen involved in manufacturing, trade and various service industries from both the public and private sectors.
It also aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Lao businesswomen in new techniques and technologies, so they are able to keep up with changing times and make progress.
The association represents and upholds the legitimate rights and interests of Lao businesswomen by offering suggestions and recommendations to the government and relevant sectors, as well as managing and promoting professional activities.
It encourages Lao businesswomen to attend meetings and conferences relating to business operations with the central government and various bodies of public authority on the national, Asean, regional and global stages.
