Unitel, education and sports sector partner to use ICT for modernisation

The Star Telecom Company (Unitel) and the education and sports sector have agreed on cooperation in using information and communication technology to modernise education and sports in the industry 4.0 era in Laos.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on conducting a study for such cooperation was signed at a ceremony in Vientiane by the Deputy General Director of Star Telecom, Mr Bounmy Malavong, and the Head of the Office of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Dr Dalavone Kittiphan.
The ceremony was attended by the Director General of Star Telecom, Mr Tran Trung Hung, and the Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, Dr Soulioudong Soundala, the Deputy Minister of National Defense, Major General Vongkham Phommakone, officials and representatives from both sides.
The partners will carry out a feasibility study for projects that will use advanced technology to transform schools to have digital systems in the industry 4.0 era, particularly the system for school modernisation management (LAOS EDU), kindergarten modernisation management (KidOnline), online examination management (Elearning), SMS Edu and S-Kid.
The partners will also implement an electronic banking system (U-Money)  to facilitate the payment of salary to teachers and payment of fees by students, and an electronic information system (E-portal) for provincial education and sports departments, and other systems related to the education and sports sector.      
Unitel has been engaged in business operations in Laos over the past 14 years, during which the company has continued to develop infrastructure for telecommunications and improved technology.
The company has contributed to providing telecommunications services to Lao people in rural areas and around the country in order to adhere to its vision of improving the standard of living and enabling people to participate in more activities.
In the industry 4.0 era, Unitel aims to step into a new period and become a leading technology and communications company for the digital transformation of Laos and to bring digital systems into people’s lives.
Unitel places importance on development work to ensure the company becomes a leading telecommunications operator in Laos with wide signal coverage and a large network system to provide comprehensive services to the public.
The company will also try to build cooperation and relations with the government to provide telecommunications services and technological development in line with the government’s digital development plan.
The education and sports sector is an important part of the government agencies and needs to develop new technology systems for management and for providing electronic services.
